The importance of OGMP 2.0 and methane emission management
An Overview of OGMP 2.0
The Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP) is an international initiative that aims to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas industry by improving the accuracy of reporting standards and committing to emission reduction targets. A recent blog series published by Montrose provides in-depth insights into OGMP 2.0 and outlines strategies on how to achieve Gold Standard status.
This initiative is increasingly referenced in recent global regulations, including the new (EUMR), which will have global supply chain impacts as it imposes stringent requirements on upstream producers of fossil-fuel based energy imported into Europe. The integration of OGMP 2.0 into such regulations underscores its critical role in shaping industry practices and promoting sustainable operations worldwide.
Key OGMP 2.0 Requirements for Methane Measurement
To comply with requirements of the OGMP 2.0 framework, operators must be transparent, accurate, and consistent in how they measure and report emissions levels.
Because the OGMP 2.0 framework institutes measurement-based reporting, facility operators require a precise methane quantification method. One such method is direct measurement, which allows for rigorous compliance, improved emissions inventories, better environmental outcomes, and increased operational efficiency. Fortunately, facility operators can conduct accurate and fast direct measurement of their emissions via HI-FLOW 2 technology.
An overview of HI‑FLOW 2
The HI-FLOW 2 is a high-volume methane sampler designed to accurately quantify methane emissions.
It is specifically designed to provide operators with direct measurements for their Quantification, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (QMRV) projects and is useful for quantifying methane emissions from both fugitive emission leaks and some venting sources. With industry-leading precision, the HI-FLOW 22 grants a high level of visibility and control over a facility’s methane emissions.
Key features of HI-FLOW 2
Wide dynamic range for direct methane quantification and measurement
The HI‑FLOW 2 measures the widest range of emission rates available today, able to detect emissions between 0.0005 CFM to 25 CFM. This expansive range enables accurate quantification of both small and large methane leaks, which is important since capturing the full spectrum of emission sources is a vital component of comprehensive reporting. This allows operators to use one tool for multiple types of sources which may have required different tools for each source in the past.
Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS)
The HI-FLOW 2 uses TDLAS technology to detect and measure methane-specific concentrations, down to less than 1 ppm. By detecting methane through laser absorption spectroscopy, the HI-FLOW 2 delivers exceptional accuracy, minimal cross-interference, and superior stability.
Real-time data processing and reporting
The HI-FLOW 2 captures data in real-time and eliminates the need for time-consuming data transfers. Additionally, the HI-FLOW 2 integrates with platforms like Sensible EDP for on-site operational adjustments and compliance control. Through its real-time data processing and reporting, facility operators are empowered to make faster decisions in how they manage site emissions.
How HI-FLOW 2 Supports OGMP 2.0 Goals
Quantifies emissions with accuracy and precision
With the HI-FLOW 2, operators of an oil and gas facility can ensure adherence to OGMP 2.0’s strict standards for accurate methane measurement and reporting. Operators can also make decisions with greater certainty regarding regulatory and voluntary reporting.
Supports compliance and voluntary reduction initiatives
The HI-FLOW 2 meets the needs of both regulatory compliance and voluntary emission reduction efforts. The technology provides the reliable, verifiable data that facility operators require to meet their OGMP 2.0 targets.
HI-FLOW 2 is the future of methane monitoring for OGMP 2.0 adherence
The more transparency and accuracy that regulators demand, the more critical the implementation of direct measurement becomes. HI-FLOW 2 offers best-in-class methane measurement capable of meeting the evolving needs of OGMP 2.0 today and tomorrow.
